Newsletter #1 - Introductions and Microsoft UpdatesNewsletter SubscriptionHowdy friends, family, former students, and clients! It's August of 2005, which means wellDON!net has now been around for more than 3 years. Can you believe it? I've had a blast serving the computer and website needs of my clients and am looking forward to at least a few more years of doing the same. I originally had the idea to send out a monthly newsletter about a year ago, but I've stayed busy enough with teaching classes in the Emeritus Program at Richland Community College that I never got around to it. Well, I took the summer off from teaching so I could focus on growing my business some, and part of that strategy is this newsletter. I am going to do my best to start sending out a monthly newsletter that will cover some basic preventive maintenance strategies, tips for using your computer more efficiently, and keep you informed about important issues related to your computer. Some upcoming newsletters will include things such as:
I certainly don't want to clog your Inbox with unsolicited email, so please follow the instructions at the bottom if you'd prefer to be removed from the list. On the other hand, if you have some friends, family, or coworkers that you think might be interested in receiving this newsletter, please forward it on to them and encourage them to click on the link near the bottom to add themselves to the list. And if you have any other ideas that you'd like to see me cover in a newsletter, don't hesitate to let me know.
For now, one new item of interest . . .Microsoft has expanded upon Microsoft Windows Update with something new called Microsoft Update. As the website says, "Now you can get updates for Windows, Office and other Microsoft applications all in one place. Microsoft Update is a new service that brings you all the features and benefits of Windows Update plus downloads for other Microsoft applications including Office." If you're running both Microsoft Windows XP and Microsoft Office 2003, I'd highly recommend installing Microsoft Update. If not, you can stick with the regular Windows Update website and install Microsoft Office updates manually. And just in case you'd heard about the worm that was slowing things down on the Internet earlier this week, if you're not running Windows 2000, then you're not at a big risk. If you are running Windows 2000 (and even if you're not), now is as good a time as any to visit Microsoft Windows Update and get the latest security patches and such for your Windows operating system. And while you're there, you can go ahead and install the Microsoft Update component. Next month I'll discuss Windows Update in a little more detail, but for the time being, suffice it to say that the new Microsoft Update can help you keep Windows and Office updated in one step. If you need assistance with Windows Update or Microsoft Update, please don't hesitate to call me to set up an appointment. Have a great week! And don't forget to tell everyone you know, "When you want it well done, call wellDON!net."
