Well Don!

Newsletter #6 - Wired PC Guys and Windows Vista

Howdy everyone! Can you believe it's already been 4 months since my last newsletter informing you about the upcoming Windows Vista operating system and Internet file sharing? Well, a lot has happened in those four months . . .

  • Thanksgiving, Christmas, New Years, a lunar eclipse, and a few other big events
  • Windows Vista has finally been released (more on that)
  • Office 2007 was released
  • And (drum roll please), Wired PC Guys came into being!

Yes, you've surely noticed the big logo next to the well DON! logo up above. Well, that's the new business that I've established in an effort to better meet the tech support and computer coaching needs of my clients. My students in the Richland College Emeritus Program were sad to see me go last February, but I needed more time to help my clients. Not long after I stopped teaching, the website development projects started rolling in as fast as I could take them.

In January, I asked a friend from church who had previously done some independent contract work for me to help me out again as I was in the middle of (at least) three major website projects. I hated that I couldn't be timely in my response to tech support issues, so Aaron Garcia stepped in to help. I mentioned to him in passing that I really needed to find someone to join me in that side of my business. Though it took about two months, the seeking of some counsel for both of us, and a bit of prayer, he finally saw the light!

Wired PC Guys is the fruit of those labors. Aaron is now working full-time to meet the tech support needs of all of you (well, at least those of you who are local) and hopefully grow the business. Let me introduce Aaron to you . . . .

Aaron Garcia moved to Dallas in summer of 1999 to attend Southern Methodist University to pursue his dreams of acting. While attending SMU he felt called away from acting as a profession and towards ministry. He left SMU in January of 2001 and worked with Highland Park Presbyterian Church in the youth department until August 2002. Since then he has helped folks with their PC woes in a few different capacities. Most recently, Aaron did corporate tech support for a large oil, gas, and chemical company. He has been happily married to Jill for 2 ½ years, and his passions include diving into the lives of Watermark's youth, acting, movies, golf, and yes - to add to the "geek" side - he also thoroughly enjoys his XBOX 360.

I hope you're as excited to meet Aaron as he is to help you with your PC issues! I'm thrilled at how much Aaron is going to help increase our responsiveness to your tech support needs.

Please be sure to add Wired PC Guys to your list of favorites, and make note of our new business number - 214.295.8398. (For those of you who want a clever way to remember our number, that's 214-AX-KUDZU! I'm sure that will help you remember it. I know it'll help me!)

Windows Vista

I will keep this short for the time being, but suffice it to say that I am thoroughly impressed with Windows Vista. I purchased a new Toshiba Satellite laptop last month with Windows Vista Ultimate on it. Aside from some really cool widgets and gadgets, Vista has some functionality that Mac users have long touted as being what they've loved about their computers. A handful of you have asked my opinion about switching to Macs in the past and I've always discouraged the idea. But now I think you've really got a great reason to stick with Windows!

Closing Thoughts

As always, I - strike that, we appreciate that you entrust your friends and family to our care. For almost 5 years now, we have thrived on your referrals. Please keep them coming!
