Newsletter #8 - Aaron's Trip. Greeting Cards. Internet AccessWhere in the World is Aaron Garcia? For those of you who remember playing the Carmen Sandiego computer games, you might think that Aaron spent a week in June chasing a diamond thief around the world. Sadly, you'd be mistaken. Here's Aaron's report on his recent adventure . . . Some of you know that I was out of the country the week of June 11th through the 15th and are curious as to where I went and what I was doing there. Here is the short version - I went to Monterrey, Mexico for Watermark Community Church's first family mission trip. While we were there, we helped on a construction site where they are building a retreat center for the local church. We also held camps for the youth, while others conducted a small soccer (or futbol in Spanish) camp for the local children, ages 5-12. There was a Vacation Bible School for the younger crowd, and at a nearby park, we hosted a time for water games and other activities for the kids and their families, followed by a time where Kyle Kaigler and Braun Brown shared the story of God's grace and his provision for us to be with him for eternity. It was a great time to make new friends and deepen current friendships. The Lord did an amazing work in many lives, and I was blessed to have had the opportunity to go! Thank you for being patient and understanding during my absence!
Electronic Greeting CardsI definitely consider myself blessed with lots of loving friends and family. But I don't receive as many electronic greeting cards from them on my birthday as I supposedly have received in the last couple of weeks. No, I didn't win the Nobel Peace Prize either. So, who is it that's sending me all these greeting cards? Hackers. Yes, apparently I have friends around the world who love me so much that they would like to take control of my laptop. If you receive an email stating that you have received an electronic greeting card, beware. Make sure that it comes from someone you know, not just a friend, a family member, or (here's a creative one) a school mate. Then, look to see that the website you're being directed to is something like www.hallmark.com, not 200.100.55.100. If you're being directed to a numerical website address (also called an IP address), then it's more than likely someone's trying to pull a fast one.
Unfiltered Internet AccessDid you recently get one of your kids an iPhones? Are you a guy or girl with a pornography struggle that has any sort of phone or PDA with Internet access? Closing ThoughtsSummer is typically a slower time for us, so don't hesitate to get us started on ordering those new computers before the new school year gets too close. And there's no time like the present to get yourself started on a regular, automated backup so that you don't lose those pictures, songs, emails, and big school projects in the event of a computer crash. (And the older your computer is, the more you need to backup regularly.)
